why every single urban fantasy novelist in existence feels the uncontrollable need to include a storyline that revolves around Jack the Ripper in at least one of their books, and if they realize how tired the trope has become?

Don't get me started. That bullshit was even on Star Trek. Star Trek! Jack the Ripper was a transdimensional psychic entity that fed off of the fear and agony of humanoid victims by posessing random men at various points in the Space-Time Continuum and tunring them into Jack the Ripper!
