Angela and I were on the same floor freshman year. She was a couple of rooms down and across from me, and was rooming with Becky, who was a former model with long dark hair and huge eyes. My roommate was Rachel, a short and busty girl from Pennsylvania with a boyfriend who'd call at 6 a.m. to argue with her. So while Angela and I passed in the halls often and knew who each other was, we didn't really talk until her birthday, in early October.
Her friends in the cafeteria had made her a chocolate cake with purple frosting (no idea of the flavor), and she came over and offered some to me. I went to her room and ate it, and we talked for the first time. About a week later, myself and three other girls had a little "girl talk" session with her (snarking about our bitchier friends, dishing on boys, etc.) and she and I were pretty much inseparable from that point. She ended up being one of two friends of mine who came to my grandfather's funeral with me, and shortly thereafter, threw me a surprise birthday party.
People talk about how it's not healthy to become superattached to someone over such a short period of time, but...Ange is my soulmate (not in a romantic sense...more in the sense that we complete each other in a friendshiply way). When you find that, it doesn't require six months or a year to be true. It simply is.
I am in complete agreement with you. Friendships are unique. When you meet someone you connect with you don't need to give it time to gestate. If you get along then you get along and that's that.
