The Utility of Mothers
Jan. 27th, 2007 06:09 pmYesterday, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM, my frustrated mother called Dr. Marin's office 6 times in an attempt to annoy them into calling in my Neurontin refill. Each and every time she called the secretaries assured her the refill would be called in immediately, and each time she called the pharmacy an hour after receiving that assurence, the pharmacist informed her that no refill had been called in for me. It wasn't until she threatened to show up at the office unannounced and cause a scene that they called in the refill. Literally, ten minutes after she made that threat I had the drugs in my hand.
So, all in all, it took five days, 12 phone calls, and a threat from an irate mother to make Dr. Marin take ten minutes out of her day to call in the prescription I desperately need in order to physically function. If that doesn't fall under the category of "Totally Ridiculous, Unprofessional, and Unacceptable" I don't know what does. I am currently in the process of writing her a complaint letter.
I don't know if I told you all, but last week my mother showed me how to hand sew a wayward skirt hem. And last night i repaired the hem of one of my work skirts with only minimal help from my mother. I'm very proud of myself, and so apparently is mom because when I woke up this morning she gave me a small sewing kit she'd gone out and bought while I was still asleep. Now I'll have thread, pins, needles, and needle threaders up in my apartment and will no longer have to ask mom to sew up my clothes when they need it.
One of my bosses gave me a $25 Borders gift card for christmas and I put it to good use this afternoon. I bought a copy of Walter Kirn's latest novel that I didn't even know he'd written until this afternoon, called "The Unbinding." And I also got "The Physics of the Buffyverse" by Jennifer Oulette to appease my inner fan girl. I have taken on the challenge of reading every book I own before purchasing any new books with my own money. But, I am sill allowed to accept any that are not paid for with my own money therefore these two purchases were totally legit :-)
