Oh my God, I had the most fabulous night! Greg and I attended the second ever "Once More With Feeling" BUffy Sing-a Long at the IFC Center. Greg is not a Buffy fan, but he has seen episodes, and when he heard I would be singing in a theater full of strangers he insisted on accompanying me.

It was a midnight showing, but we arrived over an hour early so we could get a good spot in the ticket holders line. We did, and marveled at our forethought as the line to the sold out show stretched further and further down the block.

Once inside the theater I bought a three dollar treat bag filled with all of the interactive components of the show; A party popper, confetti, a kazoo, vampire teeth, and a rubber monster finger puppet. We also found out we weren't just getting one episode, we were getting two! Since Thanksgiving is coming up they decided to show "Pangs" before the sing-a-long. I was ultra excited about that since "Pangs" is one of my favorite episodes. But first, our MC asked if there was anyone in the audience who had never seen an episode of Buffy. A couple people raised their hands and these individuals had to be sired before the start of the show. So a dude dressed as Spike came out and "sired" them.

When we finally got to "Once More With Feeling" everything got very Rocky Horror. Along with Spike there were girls dressed as Buffy, Dawn, and Anya who acted out scenes under the screen. Confetti was thrown at the end of "Going Through the Motions" when Buffy dusts the final vampire. The party poppers were popped as Tara reaches the "climax" of "Under Your Spell." Cellphones were opened and raised in lieu of lighters during "Standing." Flaming orange streamers were tossed about the audience during "Walk Through the Fire." Kazoos were blown when Buffy announced she had been in Heaven. And the audience screamed "SHUT UP, DAWN" every time the little bit opened her mouth. And, of course, through all of this there was singing; happy, joyous, excited singing.

I sang loudly. I was just so happy to be there. I don't think the smile that crept onto my lips during the cab ride down to the village left my face the entire night. During "Rest in Peace" "Spike" came up and menaced me before "Buffy" snatched him away. It was awesome! Also, MTV News was at the event getting footage for a piece they're doing about the trend of Buffy Sing-a-Longs that is apparently sweeping the nation.

The show let out at 2 AM, we got in a cab, got home around 3. It's almost 5 now. Greg is in bed, but I'm still pumped. That was so, SO great! I haven't felt this happy in a long LONG time. The MC said they were going to start doing this on a monthly basis and they plan to have a Christmas themed sing-a-long in December, and a birthday bash for Buffy in January. I think those sound so wonderful. This is totally something I would make a habit of going to. Of course, I am 27 and this is the sort of thing 16 year olds do, but Buffy was my generation, not theirs. The theater was filled with geekily excited twenty-somethings just like me! It was fabulous. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!!!

If a Buffy Sing-a-Long goed up in your area I highly recommend going to it!

PS You may think the title is misspelled. It's not. My ticket stub says "Buffy Sing-a-Lorg." Someone in the ticket office needs to take a remedial english course.
