My Life's Soundtrack
Mar. 14th, 2006 01:43 pmThis meme has been around for ages and I've never done it before because I didn't want to go through all the trouble of compiling a definitve soundtrack of my life. Of course, memes aren't supposed to require large amounts of research. They're supposed to be simple, help you kill time. You just write down the first thing that pops into your head and get on with your day. *shakes head* Not me. For some reason I get nuts when it comes to music memes. I tackle them as though putting together a list that I will not be able to alter at a later date. Ask me to describe my personality using lyrics written by a particular artist? I will go through every single lyric sheet that person ever printed to make sure I get the perfect quotes. Ask me to pick one song that describes my feelings for every member of my immediate family? I will listen to every single album in my CD rack in order to find them.
It has taken me a week to complete this meme. I made lists of possible songs to accompany each scene. I created scenes in my head and imagined each song on the list running behind the dialogue. That's how psycho I am, people. Good news is I like my results. For today, this WOULD be the soundtrack I'd want featured in the movie of my life. I'm actually really surprised with a lot of the results. I started out just looking at songs by my very favorite artists, but as I started commiting specific songs to specific scenes I began recalling other songs that fit better and as a result, many of my most beloved musicians don't show up on this list. Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Belly, I wish I'd been able to find a place for them. Instead, I wound up using a lot of music by people I really liked at one time but don't listen to anymore, like Mazzy Star. I loved Mazzy Star all through high school, but once I graduated I just quit listening to their albums. I outgrew them. But when I was filling out this meme I couldn't think of a better song for the Mellow Scene than Five String Serenade even though I had a truck load of alternatives.
So here it is, the soundtrack to my life!

<td align="center">Your Theme Song:
Back in high school I dated this guy named Adam who I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before. We had totally conflicting taste in music. He was a metal head and I...wasn't. I thought his music was crap, he thought mine was crap. The only song we could agree on was You Oughta Know so we decided to make it "our song." It was then that I should have realized the relationship was doomed.
