The Laramie Project
Apr. 10th, 2003 02:59 pmGod, it's so nerve wracking to be sitting next to your crush in the computer lab trying like hell to seem as though you are not completely aware of his every movement.
But anyway...
Prairie Players are doing the Laramie Project this term. They are renting out the Studio Theater and have comissioned Liz to direct it. Auditions were Monday. And even though I swore I wouldn't do any theater this term, particularly no more shows with Liz, I somehow managed to wander over to CFA Monday night just as the auditions were starting. Imagine that.
So I auditioned. Because ya know, it's the Laramie Project and as a bisexual woman I have a stake in making sure that the community at large is educated about homsexuality and hate crimes. Liz had me read one scene and one monologue and she was totally scowling at me the whole time, and I left thinking "Okay, she didn't like me, I'm not gonna get cast."
But, just as it happened with Grapes of Wrath, I did!!! I just got the email from our stage manager saying that our first read through will be next monday. It's an ensemble show and all the cast memebers will be playing multiple roles. I've got 4. And initially I was concerned about the time commitment, I was afraid all the rehearsing would interfere with my school work, but I've figured a way around that!!! I'm gonna make the play a PART of my school work!!!!!
You see we have to do a big final project for Gay and Lesbian Identities and Heather wants us to incorporate our disciplines into it. Now that I've been cast I think I'll do my final paper and presentation on the Laramie Project. Now, whether I plan to examine it from the perspective of an actor or a writer, I'm not sure yet. But I think it's a cool idea and it'll integrate my extra curricular activities into my , well, curriculum :)
God I'm so silly :D
Anyway let's see what else is new? I modeled for Kate Xiao last night while hanging out in the art studio with Tina. She did this really cool painting of me. She said she'll even give me a model discount at her senior show :)
Classes are going well. I'm actually reading ahead in both Gay and Lesbian Identities AND Stereotypes and Prejudice. Can you imagine? It's just that the readings are so interesting! And we're only reading certain chapters in our text books and I wanna read the entire things. So I do!!! Weird huh?
Yes, it sure is shaping up to be an interesting term.
Ta ta.
