Naturally I told Other Mike all about Carlos last night, and true to form, he was a wee bit wary of the situation.

"I'd be flipped out if someone told me they had liked me from the first time they saw me," he said. "I'd think there was something a little off about that." Usually I'd agree, but I was trying to stay positive last night so I just kinda brushed it off.

But...given the fact that Carlos just called up to tell me how badly he was thinking about me last night...I'm starting to think Mike may have been a little more on target than I was willing to give him credit for.

That made me uncomfortable. You don't call up the girl you like but have yet to even go out with and tell her you've been thinking about her all night long! That's just creepy!!! And the way he said it...*shudders*...was just a little too sleazy. I know I was uncomfortable before but at least it was all in my head, at least I knew it was the product of my own insecurity. But now...I just feel kinda dirty and frightened.

Am I nuts?

now, that's definitely not a thing that normal guys do. Unless you guys had, like, the best first date ever or something. Which it doesn't sound like you did.

I would say no, you aren't nuts and you should tell him that his behavor is making you uncomfortable. if he is at all decent, and actually wants a chance with you, he will lean off it.

give yourself an "out" during the date, so if you have to bail, you have an excuse already.

Yeah, that's just slightly creepy. I think I'd probably make up an excuse -not- to go on the date if a guy ever did that to me.

I hate to re-inforce negative stereotypes about my people, but I have to admit some of them are true. I'm assuming he's latin american because of the name "carlos". Latino guys tend to be very clingy, and very boyish when they like someone. They might say things like "I can't stop thinking about you, I think I love you" after talking to you for 2 days. Sometimes it's lies, sometimes it's true. The thing is, that's what they think girls like to hear. And most latin american girls like to hear that stuff, and think it's absolutely romantic. Upside: they can be VERY romantic. Downside: they can be VERY possesive and jealous. I'd say, give him a chance. But let him know that you're uncomfortable with how he's acting. He might get offended, he might be open minded enough to accept it and try to give you a chance (they usually think american girls are too cold). If he bolts, you don't want him anyway. He was going to be trouble anyway. This is why, until I find a latin guy that proves the stereotype wrong, I'm dating gringos. :-)
