No Babies!

My Facebook live feed is littered with baby pictures and sonograms. It seems like all the people I've ever met have decided to reproduce en masse. For someone like me who doesn't especially like or want kids, it's weird watching my friends slip into that mommy mentality where Nothing! Matters! But! The Baby!

I got my period today. When I saw the blood I thought, "There goes one more child I'm not gonna have." That got me to thinking. I had my first period in October of 1991. Taking into consideration that girls don't usually release mature eggs during their first few periods, I've probably been fertile since January of 1992. Having had (roughly) twelve periods a year for eighteen years means I've successfully avoided pregnancy about 216 times! That's a whole lotta babies! And I'm glad none of them exist, because I'd be a terrible mother!

So today, instead of oohing and aahing over sonograms, I'm celebrating the fact that I have not produced any offspring! No babies for me, yaaaaay!

I love this post! I totally agree with you about this subject.

I was thinking of posting pictures of my own sonograms from when I was a wee fetus just to see what kind of a reaction I get...

Your parents still have your sonograms? Wow, all I've got is the hospital bill from my birth. I was born jaundiced so both me and my mom had to stay in the hospital for a week after I was born. I think the total cost came to about 8K.

That sucks. :( That's a lot of money for back then too. Can't imagine the cost for something like that now...

Yeah, there are two sonogram pics back from 1979 (1978 most likely). Next time I go visit the folks I'm going to scan them and see how many people ooh and ahh over my nonexistent wombfruit.

I am a very proud member of the "childfree" group on LiveJournal!

My husband and I are also trying to decide on a VHEMT (Voluntary Human Extinction Movement) sticker for our car.

I LOVE the childfree community. I'm also a member of childfree_hc. They are, like, the only LJ communities I read or comment on with any regularity.
