In less than a month I will be headed out to Seattle! I'm getting really excited about it. I've never been further west than Illinois so this will be a whole new world to me. I need to go out and buy a travel guide. I know I want to see the Fremont Troll and the Space Needle. Kin told me I have to go to the Pink Place Market and watch the vendors throw fish at each other. Other than that, I'm gonna need a guide to tell me what I should do.
I have a love/hate relationship with travel. I hate having my daily routine disrupted. On the other hand, I love exploring new places. It's one of the reasons I went to college in a state I'd never stepped foot in before. I wanted a new experience. I usually do well with short weekend or week-long getaways. Going some place for a short period of time satisfies my curiosity without tearing me completely out of my beloved routines.
There are lots of little getaways I'd like to take now that I have the money. I think it would be fucking awesome to do a DAY trip to Baltimore! It's only a three hour train ride from NYC. I'd love to catch, an 8 or 9 AM train one one morning, get into Baltimore around noon, and run around the city all day. I want to go to the Inner Harbor and the police station so I can take pictures and send them Katie who is the only person, other than Michael, who could truly appreciate them. Then I'd catch an 8 or 9 PM train back to the City, get in around midnight, and go home. I think that would be a wicked trip!
I'd also like to visit Salem, Ma. I've been trying to get Greg to take me for the last couple of years. I think it would make a nice weekend trip. And, of course, I'd love to get back up to Vermont sometime, preferably in the fall when all the trees are changing color and the mountains just look like these huge patchwork quilts. I wouldn't mind seeing Providence or Newport, RI either.
I also think it would be awesome if I could find some way to fit an annual visit to Chicago into my schedule. Each time I've passed through over the last year I've been warmly greeted by some of my closest and most beloved friends, and I would love to have the opportunity to spend more than just a couple of hours with them. Most of my friends live in or around Chicago. I think I know more people in Illinois than I do in New York.
I have to get my social schedule for the next two Chicago layovers in order. I've already promised
greenblackevil at least one of them. A couple months ago Libby said she might be interested in the other, but needed to see if she could get the time off from work. Of course, I haven't heard from her since. I need to email her about it. If she can't get the time off then I want to see if I can slip in a visit with someone else. If no one else is available, then Matt has generously offered to keep me company during both layovers :-)

Oh, and Jon would also appreciate the pics of Baltimore. I've watched through Season 6. Now we just need Season 7 & the movie.

Date: 2008-07-12 03:38 am (UTC)That's right! I forgot Jon was a Homicide fan. Greg gave me Season 7 for my birthday, so now all I need is the movie and I'll have the entire series. The two final episodes of Season 6, Fallen Heroes Parts 1 & 2, are my favorite episodes of the entire series. The shoot out in the precint is bloody crazy, and seeing Frank show actual affection towards Bayliss is just...about time. And, oh my god, how did you react to Frank's stroke? Apparently Andre Braugher was getting tired of the character, he wanted to do something new with Frank. So, the writers gave him a stroke. Story goes that when Andre Braugher read that script, he smiled and said "Well, that hits me right where I live."
Oh, and I wanted to tell you that since I'm going to be in town six days before the wedding, if you need an extra set of hands, feet, eyes, ears, kidneys, for anything, just call me.
