Itchy and Exhausted
May. 8th, 2008 11:39 amI have been so exhausted this week. I've come home from work every night wanting nothing more than to fall face first into my bed and not move until morning. I actually did that Monday night; got in bed at 7:00PM and didn't wake up until 6:30 AM the following morning.
I suspect there are a couple of reasons for this. First is the crazy, hell-bent cleaning spree I'm on. Tuesday night I forced myself to go straight to the laundromat after work and do one load of clothing and one load of sheets. Last night I did the same thing. walking to and from the laundromat carrying such large loads was a little tiring. So was flipping my mattress, changing the sheets, and then folding all the clean laundry. I've also been forcing myself to keep my apartment neat, so even after all the laundry related activities were done, I still had about a half hour of maintenance straightening up to do. I've read that doing house chores burns calories and is essentially a form of low-impact exercise. I'm actually starting to believe that.
For the second reason, I give you two words: tree pollen. Over the last two weeks my allergies have gone from zero to one hundred and sixty-six. Just dealing with them on a daily basis is sucking the life out of me. My neck is itchy, my throat is scratchy and full of phlegm, my voice is hoarse, my nose is runny and sore, and my eyes are watery and blood-shot. Yesterday I even developed a single hive under one of my eyes. Never had that happen before. I've had hives on my arms, legs, hands, all my extremities - never on my face. I'm guessing a particularly distasteful speck of pollen made its way to that spot and wound up hanging out for a little while. It's gone now, went down some time late last night, but the skin under that eye is still itchy and red. It might be the return of my sebhorreic dermatitis. It's definitely the season for it. One way of the other, allergies are sucking me dry, and making my head feel fuzzy and my eyelids heavy.
I've actually vowed not to go to the laundromat tonight having already made my two requisite trips for week. I do have to do some more straightening up in my apartment though. I swore to myself I'd do a little bit everyday until it was spotless and by God I mean to make good on that promise. I also have to hand wash some clothes. There are a couple people I need to call. I still haven't called my dad to tell him I got one of my poems published. I need to call Greg. I promised Kim I'd call her, like, two months ago and I still haven't. I'd like to call Matt. I'd also like to lay around and watch all my favorite NBC comedies tonight, so maybe I'll get around to making those calls, and maybe I won't.
This weekend Greg is coming up to help me install the AC. Saturday cannot come soon enough. With the AC installed I will no longer have to keep my windows open all the time which will stop the flow of deadly pollen into my living quarters. At the moment I'm surviving by running my air purifier on high all the time. It helps, but a glass barrier between me and the outside world will help more.

Date: 2008-05-10 05:37 pm (UTC)I developed an immunity to Claritin back when I was in junior high and the stuff was still only availible by prescription. Benadryl used to work, but I've been popping that shit like candy and it's barely done a thing.
Thanks for the recommendation, Jen. I think I'll give it a shot!
