Howdy pilgrims, I'm coming to you live from the Sarah Lawrence College library, the name of which I have yet to learn. I'm on lunch break. Just thought I'd pop on in and check my email since I haven't done so in over a week. This being my first day and all I'm not yet comfortable with checking email at my desk. And yes I do have my own desk. My own cubicle actually that I can decorate and flood with photos of those I adore. First up? The picture Gayle drew me for my birthday :-)

The day has gone by really fast. The commute was great. The bus I take to work let's me off almost directly in front of the building I work in. Got here at nine and have been learning the ropes ever since. One of the part-time workers is training me and she seems nice. Half of the office was on vacation last week so everyone is really quiet and laid back today, trying to catch up on their work. There's a lot of stuff to learn. I have to learn Raizor's Edge and figure out how to do a mail merge. Need to figure out how to make graphs in Excel. Guess we all know what I'll be doing when I got home tonight. All in all the day has gone by very fast. I don't feel rushed or put upon in anyway. They aren't throwing everything at me all at once, they're giving me time to absorb all the information so that's good.

It's still too soon to tell how this new job will turn out, but I just wanted to let you all know that I'm feeling good about it. I'm happy. The campus is gorgeous. It looks...well, like a real college campus, not those block long clusters of buildings you see in the city. I ate lunch outside on a Gizmo Patio-like area. I need to figure out where the registrar's office is so I can pick up a copy of the course schedule. It's hard nagigating the campus because nothing is labeled. None of the buildings have plaues or identifying markers. You just sort of have to stumble upon stuff at your leisure.

Well, I'm off. Talk to you all later.

Love,

Carla

I have to learn Raizor's Edge

What's that.

Need to figure out how to make graphs in Excel.

Not to hard, except microsofts shitty glitches makes you have to keep tweeking everything to get it right.

Glad things are going well for you. Seems exciting, like your first day at college as a student.

Hurrah for work!

Do you get to take any classes in the fall? If so, which?

I do I do! I can take one class per term. I don't know what I'm gonna take yet because the fall schedule isn't out, but it'll be something in the graduate writing curriculum :-)

There should be some decent FAQs for Raiser's edge online. I've heard it can be a bit difficult to use, but I'm sure it's not that much of a learning curve. And I can help with mail merges and excel charts! I can do both in my sleep! While playing the piano and juggling small fish.

Wow, now that's talent.

I just discovered the "help" option on Excel and that's doing me a lot of good. I'm working on this wacky spread sheet of potential donors right now and I wouldn't be able to organize a thing without it.
