Dead Mouse
Aug. 19th, 2002 05:13 amI just found a dead mouse in the kitchen.
It got caught in one of the "humane" sticky traps my mom and I set up nearly a month ago. We were checking them regularly for a few weeks but when we didn't catch anything we stopped. Usually when a mouse gets stuck in the trap he struggles and I hear him squeeking, and then I get him out of the trap and take him outside.
For some reason, I didn't hear this one get caught. Maybe I was in my room, or asleep or something. All I know is when I found him he was dead, completely stuck to the trap. He probably starved to death. I tried poking him a little hoping he would open his eyes. But he was stiff, and he had been there long enough for dust to start gathering on him.
Humane my ass. It would have been kinder to just smack the poor thing over the head then to incapacitate it and let it starve to death! It was very disturbing to see. I like rodents. I like taking care of animals. I contributed to this poor creatures death because I was complacent enough to stop checking the traps. Do you know how long it takes for an animal to starve to death? At least a week. That thing was in pain and emotional distress for at least a week before it expired! I can't imagine it! I feel so bad :(
And just to fill you in on..other stuff, I emailed Dean Bailey the other day asking him if there was anyway i could stay in the City AND get credit for school. Like through taking independent studies or doing an internship or something. Spoke to Paul tonight about dropping out of school. He thinks I shouldn't go that route. I asked the I Ching too. Told me not to act rashly, but then again isn't that what it always says? I swear every hexagram is just a different way of saying, "Think before you act." Well, DUH!
I've been playing around on the internet and I've been finding so many wonderful internships in the City. Serious, I've found internships in publishing, radio, television, theater; all sorts of neato stuff I can do and would enjoy. If i can get a thumbs up from Dean Bailey and find a way to get my resume printed out, I'm gonna start sending out inquery letters.
An internship would be a way to be in school without being in school, which is exactly what I need. Getting rid of the pressure of going back in three weeks, may help me motivate myself to get my work done. I dunno. And staying in the city would be fab because then I could get into real therapy.
So many ideas, so many choices, still don't know what to do :(
