In this entry you shall witness the deterioration of my photographic memory.

[livejournal.com profile] haemonic - I met Evie the first or second week of September 2000. That term she and her roomate Tristina Gelinas broadcasted a radio show on WVKC called "My Hamster's Fat" that was slotted for 4th hour on Monday. "Carla's Self-Indulgence Hour" got the 5th hour slot that term, and Tristina introduced us the first day I showed up to relieve them.

[livejournal.com profile] zombie_dog - Gabe won't remember this. He's told me numerous times how bizarre his first couple months at Knox were. How everyone on campus knew who he was before he'd even met anybody. I told him, that's what happens to the cool first years. Knox is so small that the flood of fresh blood we get every September is a God send. Every year the upper classmen hone in on the cool/cute/most interesting freshmen and then tell everyone else to befriend them. I actually remember sitting in the cafeteria at the beginning of that year and asking someone "So, who are the cool freshmen this year?" and the person said, "Well, there's this guy Gabe who seems pretty cool." But I digress.

It must have been the third or fourth week of September 2000. I had just settled into my new work study job at the library. It was a Sunday, I remember because the place was dead, and I was sitting quietly at the circulation desk reading Beowolf for English Lit. class.

Suddenly I heard the doors open and in came Moses and Gabe. I felt a little disappointed as they breezed past the circulation desk without so much as a glance in my direction. Moses and Allison had broken up at the start of the term, and with her rule of silence lifted he'd started engaging me in innocuos chit-chat again for the first time in almost two years. When I saw him come in I hoped he'd stop and talk to me. The boys took a quick lap around the first floor, it was clear Moses was taking Gabe on a little tour, before heading upstairs. I went back to my book.

Ten minutes later they came back down. As they headed for the door Moses came over and asked "Gabe, have you met Carla?"

"No."

"Gabe, this is Carla. Carla, this is Gabe."

*him* nod, *me* nod, *us* "Hi, nice to meet you."

Then Moses started asking me about the new job and how I was liking it. I have to admit, while I was happy to have finally been introduced to the much talked of Gabe, in that moment I was way more focused on Moses. Our interactions that term were the first steps we took towards civility after all the freshman year fall out.

Sadly, even though Gabe and I knew most of the same people, we never became more than passing acquaintences. Took us three and a half years and removal from the Knox bubble to become real friends.

[livejournal.com profile] jeiry - All I remember is that Gayle was the person who introduced me to Jen. They were both in the choir that term, and I'm sure we were introduced after one of the concerts. Gayle had taken a shine to her, so I'd heard about "Puerto Rican Jen" long before we met. (Surprise, surprise.)

[livejournal.com profile] magic4uwho - I've been ripping my hair out over this one. I honestly can't remember where or when I met Amy. All I have are theories. Maybe we met in the caferteria while eating lunch at the GIN or J-Club table? Maybe we met at an ASK meeting? Maybe somebody introduced us to each other in the hallway between classes? I really haven't the foggiest idea. Amy, if you can remember I'd be more then happy to listen to the story. Just goes to show you my photgraphic memory is only selectively so.

[livejournal.com profile] daver40 - Though I know I was introduced to Dave before March of 2001, we only started talking to one another when we ended up in Yvonne Lassalle's Social Inequalities class that term. Jennie O. was in there too and she was the bridge between us. We both knew her, she was the boisterous one, we were the shy ones, we chose to believe her when she told us both the other was cool. I didn't take to Dave right off the bat. He was very shy, like shyer than me shy, and we all know how hard I can be on shy people. I'm sure there were many times in the beginning when I was short with him. But, he was a nice guy. There was never any doubt about that, and after several months I finally learned how to chill out and just let him be himself without getting my panties all in a twist because he wasn't like me.

[livejournal.com profile] satinalien - Here's another case of faulty memory. I've had to think long and hard in order to piece this one together. Working backwards through my senior year helped a lot. I know that by the time Lauren and I audition for Where the Wild Things Are in spring of 2002, I was familiar enough with her to feel totally uninhibited while we were reading together, and to be delighted when we were cast in parts that would require us to spend a lot of time with one another. I recall nights during winter term of the same year that I dined with the GIN crowd, and Lauren always gave me a hug whenever a pulled up to the table. So, this indicates I must have met her Fall term of 2001. Thinking back a little further, I recall having read a scene with her sometime before the Wild Things auditions. Yes! There it is! We must have met during the auditions for the Fall term one acts, whatever those were. I have a vague memory of the two of us exchanging introductions, scripts in hand.

I could keep going but my desire to keep Melly Jay in suspense is overpowering.

Tomorrow: Adrienne!
