To Hillary Clinton From Sophie B. Hawkins
Feb. 4th, 2008 03:11 pmI thought this was incredibly cute.
And, in what may very well be the first and only politically driven post I write this election year, can I just say I am sick and tired of everyone harping on Hillary for voting in favor of the invasion of Iraq!
What no one seems to remember is that at the time of the vote New Yorkers were out for blood. The wound of 9/11 was still very fresh. People were angry and hurting and they wanted someone, anyone, to pay. If you watch local news footage, man on the street interviews from that time period, you'll see that most New Yorkers were IN FAVOR of the Iraq invasion. Oh, yes they were, and I don't care what any of them say now that we know it was one gigantic mistake, back then most of them were on board.
So, when people ask Hillary why she voted in favor of the invasion I shake my head in awe becasue the answer is so glaringly obvious to me - because that's what her constituency wanted! She did her job! New York wanted Iraq to pay, so she cast her vote the way the people she was representing wanted her to. I swear to God, had she not voted in favor of the war her popularity would have dropped substantially.
She did her job, she respected the desires of the people, and that's just one of the reasons why I will be voting for her yet again on super Tuesday.
PS I have decided that Plaxico Burress is my favorite football player simply because his name sounds like an oral hygiene product :-) It helps that he's a really good player, too.
