Last night Greg and I went over to my Mom's for dinner and I got a load of news about my extended family. Back in January my Uncle Mike, Mom's brother, had a stroke which greatly effected his ability to see. A couple of weeks ago he had a seizure. He and his wife, Julie, were having dinner at a nice restaurant when he suddenly began convulsing and fell out of his seat. Blood spurted from his mouth because he was biting his tongue. Julie was terrified. Luckily, the woman sitting at the table next to them knew what to do. She laid him down on the floor, put something into his mouth to keep him from biting his tongue and told him not to worry, help was on the way. He was rushed to the hospital, and once he was back in stable condition, was told by the satff that it is very common for people who experience strokes to have seizures within the first year of recovery. Mike and Julie were both unhappy that no one warned them of this back in January.

My Uncle's wayward daughter Talia, my childhood playmate and friend, drove for three days cross country, from Colorado to Florida, to be with him after she heard the news. Talia is two year older than me and the two of us were great friends until I reached high school. We were pen pals all through junior high, but our communication fell off when I turned 14. She moved away from home soon after and has sort of bounced around the country since then. No one hears from her on a regular basis. Not even her parents have up to date information about her usually. But, my mother spoke to Talia's mother last week and found out Talia has been having a difficult year. Apparently, she got pregnant and had a miscarriage. We don't know who the father was, or if she was or currently is, in a committed relationship. Talia is one of those women who goes through boyfriends like Kleenex so no one can ever keep up with her romantic travails.

I was shocked by all of this though I was happy to hear that both Uncle Mike and Talia are all right.

While I was over there I asked Brother Michael if he had decided who he was going to take with him to The Police concert on Halloween. He said, "Yes, I have."

"Who?" I asked.

"You," he said.

Needless to say I am psyched! I was hoping that he would choose me but I made sure not to express an over-powering interest. They were a birthday gift after all, and I wanted him to choose whoever he'd most like to share the experience with. I thought for sure he'd ask his best friend, Eddie. But, no. He said Eddie was his second choice after me. So, this Halloween me and Michael will be at Madison Square Garden watching The Police bring down the house. Can I get a "Sweet!"?

On a more mundane note, Friday afternoon my internet connection went out. Luckily, I was able to get a service technician to come out Saturday morning and restore it. Turns out the signal I was receiving was way too low for the modem to function properly. So he increased the power of the signal. He also replaced my splitter and gave me a higher quality modem just to cover all his bases. He was super nice, so I am a happy camper. For now.

Tomorrow is opening day at Sarah Lawrence which means I have to help hand out registration packets to returning students, which means I have to get up whole a half hour earlier than usual, which means that I have to wake up a full hour earlier than usual because all public transportation will be running on the dreaded Sunday schedule.

I think I shall set a goal for myself. Having finally finished reading the DMV's driver's manual online and done pretty well on the practice quizzes, I would like to take the written test before I leave for Homecoming. *nods decisively*

Oh, and I think I have figured out what I am going to make for the people who commented on this post. There is still room for one more person to get in on the action so comment away.
