Small Wonders
Apr. 19th, 2007 10:02 pmWithin the last couple months I've discovered singer-songwriter Rachael Sage and have been purchasing her albums and playing them non-stop ever since. Last night while I was tidying up my aprtment I started singing her song "Ode to a Sailor." So I'm matching socks and folding laundry when it suddenly hits me that I actually sound kinda good. At least, I think I do. I stop what I'm doing for a second, repeat the chorus, and shake my head in disbelief. I can't sound as good as I think I do, I KNOW I can't. I am not a trained singer. I can sing on key but that's about it, and that's not even always a sure thing. I sing in the shower and always crack because I reach for notes I can't hit. I can't normally just sing some song off-handedly and sound good. So, I drop everything and quickly create an audio file of myself singing the chorus because I want to actually hear myself so I can confirm that I do not sound as good as I think I do. So I play it back...and I still sound good! Like, really good! Like that voice class I took with Lillian junior year actually did something to improve my voice. It was pretty awesome!

You may have noticed that baby doll dresses have come back into style because all the original fashion design ideas have been used up and all we can do now is keep recycling the same old fashion trends over ten year intervals. I discovered this while shopping at H & M not long ago where I came across the cutest little deep blue baby doll dress. Now, I was very big on baby doll dresses when they were in fashion back when I was in high school, so of course I hauled that sucker straight into the dressing room. Once I had it on though, I looked in the mirror and had to stifle a laugh. The dress fit fine but it just looked so wrong. I looked like a twenty-seven year old woman who was trying to be fifteen again. It was hysterical. Needless to say that dress went back on the rack.
Cut to today where I spent one hundred and eighty dollars on new spring clothes at Cross County, including two baby doll dresses. I couldn't help it. I found them at Old Navy and they don't actually make me look like I'm trying to reclaim my youth. And because of their design I get to modernize them a bit. We all know that severely plunging neck lines are very in right now, neck lines that make it impossible for anyone, particularly top heavy girls like myself, to wear any top without layering. Well, these dresses have that neck line, but lucky me, I bought a sack load of tank tops today so I can wear them underneath. The look is a little more youthful than I normally attempt but I think it looks cute on me.
That is all :-)
