Fiona is Only Sleeping
Aug. 16th, 2005 01:36 pmIt's official, Fiona Apple's third album "Extraordinary Machine" is going to be released by Epic on October 4th. As every good Fiona fan knows the album was completed years ago but Sony shelved it because the execs "didn't hear a single" on it. Same thing happened to Sophie B. Hawkins' third album. The first single "Lose Your Way" was written and recorded on a banjo. Sony execs didn't think it sounded commercial enough and demanded that she re-record the track on guitar. Sophie refused and the album was shelved for five years until her fan base rallied and Sony had no choice but to release it. Last year someone leaked "Extraordinary Machine" onto the internet and it's been circulating ever since. Thanks to
a_deal_with_god I have several tracks from it on my computer. Apparently after the leak Fiona dropped Jon Brion who produced 11 of the albums tracks and hired producer Mike Elizondo to remaster those songs and produce two new ones for the release. Kinda weird. Anyhoo, it's finally coming out and I'm gonna be the first person in line at Tower on October 4th.
Last night I slept for 11 and a half hours. I turned out my lights at 8:00 PM and didn't wake up until 7:30 this morning. I think I was catching up on all the sleep I missed the night before. Sunday night I fell asleep at 1:00 AM. I woke up three hours later and was unable to go back to sleep, so I was exhausted by the time I got home yesterday. Still that didn't stop me from making an Old Navy run after work. I went there looking for cords and wound up buying a new bag. It's blue and green and pretty and beats the fuck outta my backpack which makes my back sweat. It's lighter too.
I didn't tell you, two weeks ago I discovered the pleasures of Bay Plaza AKA the biggest shopping center in Co-Op City. It's only a 15 minute bus ride from my apartment and it has everything a girl could want. It's got an Old Navy, JC Penney's, AMC, Barnes and Noble, Linens and Things, Marshall's, Toys R Us, Staples, PC Richards, and a Big K-Mart. Weekend before last I went out there and bought a bath mat, and last weekend I went to Penney's and bought two new pairs of jeans and a T-shirt. It has been over a year since I've had jeans that fit.
On Friday I got paid so I bought the third season of Homicide: Life on the Street and the first season of the Muppet Show on DVD.
And today I went over to the Registrar's office on my lunch break hoping to make some headway in registering fro class. No such luck. The chick I spoke to thought she knew what was going on but obviously had no clue. I asked a really simple question "What does a staff member need to do in order to register for a graduate class?"
"Well, what do you want to do?" she asked.
I stared at her. "Take a writing class."
"But, what do you want to DO? What are your goals? Your future plans?"
"I just wanna take a class."
"Well, if you want to receive credit you'll have to take the class through the Office of Continuing Education, if not you can just audit and all you need to do is talk to the professor. Maybe you should just talk to the Director of Graduate Studies..."
"Thanks, I'll do that. Bye."
Didn't know I'd have to have a PLAN in order to register. I don't want to go through the Continuing Education program. Continuing Ed. only offers post bac classes. I want to take full on graduate courses. If I need to apply and get accepted into the program in order to do that, so be it, but the staff handbook says I can take any class, grad or undergrad, through whatever office I want whenever the hell I want as long as there's space availible. I've emailed the Director of Graduate Studies and hopefully she can be of a little more use to me.
Hey
violencearrived, I want a picture of you to set as the background on my work computer. I know what you're thinking, chains and chaps right? No no no, the pic must be work safe! I've been trying to come up with a personalized background all day and I haven't been able to. At this point it's either a picture of you or Vincent Kartheiser. I'd be happy to put up a picture of Vinnie but you're hotter, so indulge me will ya?
