I just got off the phone with [livejournal.com profile] daemon8666 and all I can say is boy did I need that. I came home all tired, grumpy, and ready to collapse. Spaced out in front of the computer for about an hour, watched a little Law & Order, and then decided I owed John a phone call. He calls me just about every night which makes me feel like a schumuck because...well...I'm not the one who is being pro-active. So I figured, okay, tonight I'll call just so he knows I'm really honestly interested in talking to him and this isn't a totally one sided thing. I'm glad I did because our conversation really perked me up. I now have the energy to write this entry, something I was sorely lacking earlier this evening.

The last two days have been utterly exhausting. Why you ask? Because the RFID eqipment finally came in and the mass re-tagging of all 50,000 volumes has begun. The process is tedious and time consuming. We have to manually program each tag, and while it's not necessarily difficult, we had been led to believe the process would be a little easier. Closer to simply swiping a book across a panel or something. As is, it's taking us one full minute to tag each book. We only have three tagging machines. So even when we are working really diligently (which we are) we can only get between three and six rows of books tagged per hour.

The president of the college wants us done tagging by the first of September, and he doesn't want to pay anyone overtime, hire any extra aids, or buy us any more tagging machines. Charles sat down and did the math on this. He calculated how many minutes we have left in our work days until Sept. 1st. He figured that even if we worked non-stop, no one ever went to lunch, or took a bathroom break, we would only have 18,000 minutes availible to us. At one book per minute that's not even half the collection. Needless to say, there's no way on God's green earth we are going to be finished by September 1st. And that's fine cause I doubt the renovation is going to be done by then anyway.

But that's why I've been so tired the last two nights, because I've actually been WORKING at work. Last night I came home and had to lay quietly on my bed for an hour before I could bring myself to interact with anyone. Only have to endure two more days of this shit though. On Friday I fly the coop yet again and head down to DC to frolick with [livejournal.com profile] zombie_dog and Other Mike. By the time I return to work on August 9th they should be done with the Art and Architecture section and well into the regular stacks.

And then I will be all forlorn because I won't be able to go visit anyone again for a very long time. And I'll be stuck tagging like a mad woman for the remainder of the month. But [livejournal.com profile] gender_euphoric has threatened to visit in Sptember. And [livejournal.com profile] daver40 will be moving up here soon, so maybe all shant be lost.

Did I just say shant?

...

It is so time for bed.
