Oct. 30th, 2002 03:59 pmRob Smith is my new hero!!! He said something in class today that I have been waiting to hear from the mouth of an English teacher my whole life.
HE ADMITTED THAT SHAKESPEARE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Serious! We were talking about Shakespearean references in Millay and all of a sudden he went off on this crazy digression. He was like...
"I don't know why so many people like Shakespeare. I mean he's so stuffy and cynical. Marlowe and Webster do the same things he did and they did it better. They didn't like society and wanted to change it whereas Shakespeare was all like 'this is the way things are and you just have to deal with it. I'm going to go vote Republican now'"
I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my seat!!! But, FINALLY an English professor who shares my opinion of Shakespeare! Needless to say, I'm going to have to ask him to adopt me now.
And in case you were wondering, my presentation went off without a hitch despite the fact that I woke up late and had no prep time. Hellenga said I did a very good job, that I set up and presented my paper well. Adrienne, Tina, and Dan Chibnall all complimented me afterwards. People actually had questions when I was done so I guess they were listening.
But I'm happy that's done with. Now all I have to worry about is the Larsen paper that I STILL haven't started writing. My goal is to begin it tonight while I'm in the music library. But my plans very seldom stick. There's no telling if I'll actually write it or decide to play on the internet instead :)
Eh, I still got two days.
