I got a dress for the wedding. Woke up at the crack of 11:00 this morning so I could make one last shopping attempt. Was on my way to Lane Bryant and Lord & Taylor when I passed a Loft. I had time so I decided to take a quick look around. Found a suitable black mini dress on the sale rack. It actually looked somewhat good on me, so I bought it. Afterwards I went next door to H&M to find a decent cover up. While the dress may be flattering to my figure, it's sleeveless, and my upper arms aren't really fit to be seen. Found a black cotton button down that looks really adorable with the dress. Also bought a sheer sequinned mini poncho typed thingamabobby that will look nice over the dress should I decide glam is the way to go.

I'm glad that whole fiasco is done with. Sunday's evil shopping excursion convinced me once and for all that the entire woman's shopping experience is designed to make ladies larger then a size 9 feel awful about themselves. Yup. I went to four different stores last Sunday and couldn't find a single dress in my size. Nope. Not one. Sure there were dresses masquerading as the correct size, but most of those wound up being designed for women with big hips and no breasts. Note to designers: large hips, tummies, and boobies usually go together. While I appreciate your willingness to design for the oddly proportioned, to do so at the expense of the rest of the population is to cut of your nose to spite your face. But for the most part I couldn't find anything over a size 10. Macy's, not even Macy's had any pretty formal dresses over a size 10. Oh and that's another thing, designers don't MAKE pretty clothing for women over a size 10. They make grossly colored, horribly textured, drab casual separates that are not approriate to wear outside the house, let alone to a wedding! Last time I checked the average American woman was still a size 14, so why the bloody fuck do so few designers make fashionable clothing for average sized women? Don't they like money? Don't they WANT our money? Don't they realize we can't spend money on their product if we can't use said product?

I want to start my own clothing line for women. Sizes 12 and up. Nothing but sexy, fashionable clothing designed specifically to flatter curvaceous bodies. Play up their assets and play down their percieved flaws. And said line will come in short, regular, and tall because curvy women come in all sizes. Just cause you're a 14 doesn't mean you're 5'9 to boot. I'd make a fortune!!!

On Friday I'm making the treck down to North Carolina. Greg wants Mike and I at his place by 6:30 AM which basically means I won't be going to bed until we're on the road. I can only hope GC isn't a morning person because I will not be able to graciously tolerate his fifteen year old banter while running on zero sleep. He better LET me sleep once we're on the road 'else three relatives may roll up to my father's doorstep instead of four.

Hey, I'd do the clothing store with you. I have a hell of a time finding cute clothes in my size. Especially since Torrid has gone all pink and frou-frou on me. *shudders*

Dude, I was literally JUST out on the Torrid website and I was shocked, SHOCKED at the look of it. I tore through the pages thinking "where're the bondage pants and the grumpy models? AND WHY ARE ALL THESE DRESSES IN NEON SHADES????" *dies*

Mm, Tori

Clothing stores really try to make you insecure about your weight as early on in life as possible. When I was a kid I remember looking through a clothes rack at Dillard's and seeing these cute, well made dresses with pearl buttons BUT they were not my size. MY size was made of fabric that was not as nice, and the design didn't look half as flattering. I felt BAD that I wasn't little.
Yeah they really play up that guilt. When you look for clothes, they start with size zero and you have to dig in the back for bigger sizes. More fabric costs more money, so some stores don't bother making clothes that would actually fit the average person! No wonder people worry about their weight so much.

I like New York Clothing Company a lot, their large is actually large, extra large is actually extra large. That is -my- personal experience though, I'm a size 12.
Old Navy is great too. Their pants actually FIT! *yee*
And then there's Torrid, and yeah they've gone all pink and frilly, but some of their stuff is still decent. Maybe they'll revert back to their Hot Topic days again.

Have a safe trip!

Oh man almost all my clothing is from Old Navy. I love them!!! They are one of the few stores in New York were short, chubby girls like myself can find jeans that fit. *does the Old Navy Dance O' Joy*
