Pacific Overtures

I failed to mention I went to the theater this weekend. Saw the revival of Sondheim's "Pacific Overtures." For those of you who aren't theater geeeks, it's a musical about the westernization of Japan. Very good show. B.D. Wong played the lead, and we all know how much I love him. As far as I'm concerned he's one of those actors that can do no wrong. There's a song called "Chrysanthemum Tea" in the show that reminded me of the one time I ever had any. Gemma made me some when I was sick spring break of Junior year. I had gone over to her room in Sellew to...listen to one of her Henry Rollins spoken word albums. I had a cold, she made me tea, we lounged, drank, and laughed with Henry. Good times, good times.

I'm running on 2 hours of sleep. I had to get up early to pick up the keys to my NEW APARTMENT, and to give my landlords the rent and deposit. Andrew came with me and became the first person to set foot in my NEW APARTMENT. Turns out my place is less then ten blocks from Andrew's house. It's maybe a ten to fifteen minute walk. I knew he lived close by but I didn't realize he was THAT close. It's good to have a friend in the neighborhood, he can help me get acquainted with the area.

Let me tell you, my NEW APARTMENT looks so much better in the day light! Its only got two windows, but they are really well situated so I get lots of sun. The old tenant finally moved all his shit out so not only was this my first look at it in the daytime, but my first look without anyone else's crap in it. It's gonna be just fine. I should be able to fit most if not all of my stuff without a problem.

There's so much that needs doing and I suck at prioritizing. I need to...

Find and hire a mover
Get my hands on some boxes and pack all my shit into them
Figure out a moving date
Buy a TV and call the cable company
Decide whether I want an cellphone or a land line
Decide whether I want dial-up or DSL (or a cable modem, ooooooooh)
Buy a toaster
Buy a microwave
Talk to Mel and purchase my train tickets for the Galesburg trip
Buy Christmas presents for everyone I know and love (APB: If I know you and I love you, do me a favor and send me a christmas list, okay?)
Get a better paying job

When I put myself out there, I was able to find a place to live. When I put myself out there, I've always been able to find a lover. Now I'm just hoping if I put myself out there, someone will hire me to do something I'm good at, and pay me more than I am currently making, to do it.

*sniffs at the air*

What's that smell? Might it be the scent of optimism?

DSL or Cable modem - not dial-up, no one ever chooses dial-up! :p

also, I think your list is fairly decently prioritized. and given that it's Christmas shopping season, most everything you need should be on sale somewhere! I need myself a new microwave, but I think I'm gonna wait till the post-Christmas sales to buy one, assuming I still have some money...

I like BD. He's a really nice guy and I suspect he's a homosexual.

That WAS a joke wasn't it?

You do know that he's gay right? He even wrote a book about being gay and adopting a child. Kind of the Asian-American versionn of Dan Savage's "The Kid"

Actually I wasn't sure. I saw him with an ACT UP bag and made a crass assumption.

Be careful to check your mover out carefully before hiring anyone! www.movingscams.com is a good place to start. I have read all sorts of horror stories of places that hold your stuff hostage or lose everything and have no insurance, and all sorts of nasty stuff. New York is especially bad for fly-by-night movers.

Besides that, congratulations on your new place!

WOW! Thanks Cori. Unfortunately, now I'm scared.

Well, being prepared is the best defense. If you know what to look for, you're much less likely to get scammed. I'm sure there are a ton of reputable places that you won't have trouble with.

My Two Cents!

Go with, Cable. Better in my experince. Also, you can sometimes get cable and cable modem from the same company, and they sometimes offer reduced rates when you do so.

As for cell phone or landline:

Cell: convienent--travels with you. Can have nationwide coverage, usualy with free long distance. Can be costly. most plans start at 35+ per month. Limited Daytime minutes.

Landline: Inexpensive. sometimes as little as 15 dollars a month(where I used to be). Can be used anytime of day, as long as you want. But....long distance costs more.

Electra did moving for you. So I won't comment on that. :)

boxes: Check a local supermarket. Ask them if you can have a few of their old boxes. some places will give them to you. (mom-pop type stores more often than the large corperations will)

Hope that helps.

Ding!

Quirky. I really don't remember that. Was it also the time I had just come back from St. Louis with my first tattoo?

Exact-a-mundo my dear!
