Beautiful Girls
I enjoyed this article written by that God among men, Walter Kirn, for the June issue of Elle about how pretty isn't always sexy.
Oh, and here's something I forgot to write about when it happened. It rained this past Tuesday. When I left for work that morning it was drizzling, and having lost my umbrella I had no choice but to go without. There is no bus shelter at the stop closest to my house, just a lone metal sign. There was already a woman waiting by the curb when I arrived. She held a black umbrella ove her head. I stood hunched up next to the sign, willing the rain drops to miss me. I'd only been there a few moments when the other woman slowly began walking toward me. Without a word she approached and put her umbrella over my head :-) I thanked her and we spent the rest of the wait bitching about how slow the buses are and how much the MTA sucks.
To this lovely, kind, nameless woman I bequeath the New Yorker of the Month Award for the month of May 2008.
