Speed the Plow
A brief rundown of the first day of classes:
Intermediate Acting: It's only the first day and already I'm scared to shit of this class. It's going to be a phenomenal amount of work. Three scene studies, one monologue, a thesis paper, massive reading assignments, and regular scene and character analysis, and scoring which I was never good at to begin with. On the good side, I know almost everyone in the class, on the bad side most of them intimadate the fuck out of me. A list:
Ben Myers: Only the single best actor we have at this school! He founded his own theater company when he was like, 15 or something crazy like that, he still runs it in the summers. I've admired his work for years, and am very nervous at the prospect of performing in front of him.
Amanda Horton: the only good female actor we have at Knox presently. She gets cast in everthing.
Jeff Hendrickson: Who I've worked with before but have never been terribly personable with. Even when we were doing "Bang" and we had all the intimate physical interaction with him pawing me and whispering in my ear, we never really warmed up to one another. He's a good actor though.
Kira Horel: Eh, she's okay. I think she's kinda fake though.
Helen Drysdale: Who can't act but who is a favorite of the theater department and gets cast in everything anyway :-p
The only two people who I'm really comfortable with in that class are Noah and Yaritza who were both in Wild Things with me. We've already been assigned our first scene study; we're all doing scenes from "Proof." Luckily I got paired with Yaritza so I'm happy about that. We're doing a scene between Claire and Catherine and I'm playing Claire. Of course, neither of those names mean anything to me since I have yet to read the play. More to come on that front.
But yeah, everyone in the class are well known theater people except me. So I feel a little out of place, and a little ill prepared since it's been almost three years since I took Beginning and I've forgotten alot of the basics.
Theories of the Flesh: I arrived late to this class because Liz, like her husband, REALLY likes to hear herself talk and she talked for 15 minutes after class should have ended. Anyway, Magali seems okay. The class is big, but again there are some people in it who I know and like:
Steve Pihlaja: Okay I don't LIKE him, but I've had him in several lit classes and his decidedly ignorent and mysogynistic take on most feminist literature always makes for lively class discussion.
Marissa Aaron: who I've been in severl black studies course with. She's a good person to have around.
Pat Morse: Okay I don't actually KNOW him, but all my friends do so that counts for something right?
Janet Luebbers, Maggie and the other Matt from mythology class, all of whom are good talkers and always have cool things to say.
We have to keep journals in this class too yuck! Other then that it looks ok.
Am Lit I: Back with Rob so how could I go wrong? I felt REALLY smart in this class. I'm a lit person, I know my shit dammitt!!! Only one paper this term, kick ass! And lots of coolies in the class: Cori, Aaron Saylor, Adrienne Gardner, Katie from mythology, Adam Prairie, Jenny from Am Lit II. This will be my fun class.
Rehearsal in 4 hours. I'll let you know how it goes.
